Last Friday, January 30th, the energy at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan was nothing short of electric. The CNMI Department of Labor didn’t just host a job fair—they orchestrated a powerful, hopeful, and transformative community event that reminded us all what’s possible when public service is executed with passion and precision.

From the moment the doors opened at Hibiscus Hall, a steady stream of jobseekers flowed in—from recent high school graduates to seasoned professionals in their 50s, all dressed in their Sunday best, resumes in hand, eyes bright with possibility. By 2:15 PM, over 600 applicants had already poured through the doors, matching the largest turnouts in recent years. The line, we heard, wrapped around the corner—a powerful testament to the hope and drive of our community.

Secretary of Labor Leila Fleming-Staffler was boots on the ground all day, witnessing firsthand the incredible demand and opportunity. “We've had a line since we opened...it's been constant flow,” she noted. Her presence, alongside her entire team, was a masterclass in servant leadership. Every participant was treated with kindness and dignity, and the seamless, circular layout of employer booths allowed for meaningful, face-to-face connections.

The Opportunities Were as Diverse as Our Community

The range of employers showcased the vibrant and evolving CNMI economy:

Good Game Island captivated crowds, having already given out 150 applications for their new esports platform.

Hospitality giants like Pacific Islands Club, Coral Ocean Resort, and Kensington reported strong interest for both traditional roles and innovative new positions like “camp farmers” to educate tourists.

Local businesses like Plumeria Steakhouse shared exciting expansion plans.

Professional services, telecom, and construction sectors were actively recruiting, while NMTech highlighted critical workforce training pathways.

The message was clear: our economy is growing, innovating, and eager for talent.

KI Executive Group: Honored to Play a Small Supporting Role

We at KI Ex were immensely proud to serve as a technical partner for this event. Our Managing Director & Global Strategist, PK Daigo, volunteered from setup to breakdown, providing one-on-one resume reviews and CV workshops for jobseekers. Having spent over a decade in talent acquisition, PK has seen firsthand the unique economic challenges our islands face. He felt a deep calling to bridge the disconnect between the workforce and the business community.

That calling has now taken the shape of "ZALPHA" - Recruit, the first-ever EdTech SaaS software designed right here for our Gen Z and Gen Alpha populations. Conceived in a think tank with former educator Eleanor Alinas and built by PK (who taught himself Google DevOps while managing KI Ex projects), ZALPHA is designed to connect fresh graduates with local employers and a global marketplace. Its mission is to stabilize brain drain, combat youth unemployment, and arm our next generation with readiness tools. Currently in trademark & IP patent-pending status, we’re thrilled to be rolling out beta users in the CNMI this quarter.

Persistence is Key

As the fair wound down, Secretary Fleming-Staffler offered perfect, no-nonsense advice to every applicant: Follow up. Consistently. A simple, weekly call can turn a resume in a pile into a candidate who stands out. Persistence is the key that unlocks the door.

This event was more than a success—it was a heartening display of community, potential, and proactive government service. We extend our deepest gratitude to the entire CNMI Department of Labor team for their flawless execution. And to Secretary Leila Fleming-Staffler, we say a special Happy Birthday. One of your birthday wishes—to see your community empowered and moving forward—came true before our eyes. Thank you for showing up, leading with heart, and making it happen.

Here’s to new beginnings, resilient jobseekers, and a CNMI workforce ready to build the future.

The Team at KI Executive Group
