About the Role

The Litigation Attorney is responsible for managing all aspects of medical malpractice litigation from case inception through resolution, including trial and arbitration. This role requires an experienced attorney with in depth knowledge of medical, legal, and regulatory issues related to professional liability defense. The Litigation Attorney develops effective case strategies, collaborates closely with trial attorneys and claims professionals, and ensures high quality, cost effective representation of physicians and healthcare providers while adhering to established defense attorney guidelines.

Requirements

• Collaborate with trial and lead attorneys on discovery and investigation strategy


• Obtain concurrence with Claims Specialists regarding defense preparation and case strategy


• Prepare pleadings, motions, and other legal filings


• Prepare and respond to discovery requests


• Attend court appearances, hearings, and conferences as required


• Prepare cases for trial and arbitration


• Represent physicians in deposition only cases when assigned


• Share legal knowledge and insights with other attorneys within the organization


• Ensure cost effective case management and overall defense of assigned matters


• Respond to hotline inquiries from the Claims Department


• Assist trial and lead attorneys with preparation of reports to Claims throughout all stages of litigation


• Ensure timely reporting and completion of case work up


• Comply with all Defense Attorney Guidelines and internal policies

About the Company

Education:
• Juris Doctor degree required


Professional Experience:
• Minimum of three years of medical malpractice litigation experience


Licensure:
• Active license to practice law in the State of California


Core Competencies:
• Strong understanding of medical malpractice law and litigation procedures
• Ability to develop and execute effective litigation strategies
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
